Stirling
The 30 acre Stirling vineyard is located in central Waipara and is planted on two former river terraces. The lower 10 acre terrace is the bed of the former river with the vines planted directly onto river boulders and shingle. The soil here has little structure so all harvest compost is mulched and spread onto this block to impart nutrients. We have Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines planted on this terrace.
The remaining 20 acres on the upper terrace is planted in Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The soil here is gravelly sandy loam over gravel shingle and sand.
Soil moisture is monitored on all our blocks and drip irrigation used when required. The Stirling vineyard along with Church Road and Terraces vineyards have their own dam. Rain water is collected throughout the winter and used for irrigation during the dry summer and autumn months. Glasnevin and Georges Road use a well system.
