2016 Stratum Riesling – Review
The Stratum Riesling is one of our most awarded and highly reviewed wines. It has recently received a 4 star review from Michael Cooper:
Bargain priced, the 2016 vintage (4*) is a distinctly medium style. Bright, light yellow/green, it is medium-bodied, with generous, peachy, vaguely honeyed flavours. Drink now-2019.

The long, warm summers of the Waipara Valley provide the perfect climate to allow aromatic varieties such as Riesling and Pinot Gris to ripen gradually over a long period of time. This develops the sugar levels in the grapes and gives the wines great complexity of flavours.
Our Riesling is made in an off-dry to medium style with around 20g of residual sugar per litre of wine. This level of sugar gives richer flavours rather than making a “sweet” tasting wine. The Stratum Riesling has flavours of zesty lemon and fresh red apple with a little hint of stone fruits and spice creating an interesting and invigorating wine.
Aromatic wines such as this Riesling are great paired with slightly spicy food as the richness of the flavours in the wine can stand up to the strong flavours in the food. Try this wine with Asian spiced prawn salad or the earthy spiciness of a Middle Eastern dish. Alternatively for a refreshing end to a meal pair this wine with light desserts such as a summer pavlova.
